Nioh 3 Walkthrough Part 3: Navigating the Frostbitten Bastion

It is Wednesday, February 11, 2026. You’ve conquered the fire, but can you survive the stillness? Mission 3, "The Silent Peak," introduces the most brutal environmental modifier yet: Frostbite Accumulation. In the 8K engine, snow depth isn't just a visual—it's a physical drag on your movement speed ($V$) and Ki recovery ($K_r$).

Julian Blackwood: "Data shows that 65% of deaths in this region occur because players attempt to dodge-roll on ice. Don't be that player. Your momentum on frozen surfaces is calculated by a new friction coefficient—master it, or slide into the abyss."

1. The Science of Friction: Movement on Ice

Every time you dodge on ice, the game calculates your slide distance. If you aren't wearing Spiked Tabi, you are essentially playing a lethal version of ice skating.

The Slide Momentum Formula ($M_s$):
$$M_s = (V_{initial} \times \text{Agility Grade}) \div \text{Friction Coefficient } (\mu)$$

Tip: $\mu$ is 0.2 on ice vs 0.9 on stone. Adjust your timing accordingly.

2. Advanced Build Strategy: Resonance Synergy

By Part 3, you should have at least three Spirit Resonance slots unlocked. In the Bastion, the meta shifts away from raw Fire damage toward Earth and Purity. This combination shatters the "Crystal Shell" armor of the northern Yokai.

Recommended Gear for the Bastion

Gear Set Primary Buff Why It Works
Northern Wolf Armor Frost Resistance (+40) Prevents the "Slowed" debuff from accumulating in snow.
Heavy Hammer / Axe High Break Damage The fastest way to shatter ice-encased Yokai cores.
Sun-Touched Onmyo Fire Imbue (Passive) Constant heat generation reduces the Frostbite meter.

3. Boss Strategy: Kageyama, the Frost-Bound Blade-Saint

Natalie Weaver: "Kageyama is the game's first true Humanoid Wall. He doesn't move fast, but he teleports through the snow using Mist-Step. You won't beat him by spamming attacks; you beat him by Perfect Parrying his overhead strike."

Boss Alert: When Kageyama sheathes his sword and the screen goes grey, he is preparing his "Zero-Point Flash." If you aren't in High Stance to block or haven't saved enough Anima for a Burst Counter, the hit will likely one-shot a low-constitution build.

The Tactical Phase Shift

  • Phase 1: He stays on the central ice pond. Keep your back to the stone pillars to stop yourself from sliding away when you block his combos.
  • Phase 2 (30% HP): He summons a blizzard. Visibility drops to 20%. Lock-on is disabled. Watch the snow displacement on the ground to find his location before he strikes.
The Parry Window ($T_p$):
$$T_p = \text{Frame Data} \times (1 + \text{Reflex Bonus}) - \text{Lag Latency}$$

4. Part 3 Completion Checklist

  • Unlock the "Heated Hearth" passive in the Onmyo tree.
  • Find the 3 hidden Sudama in the fortress caves to trade for high-level charms.
  • Reach Level 45 to ensure your Guardian Fusion lasts long enough for the Phase 2 boss blizzard.

THE MOUNTAIN IS CONQUERED.

You’ve survived the cold. Part 4 takes us to the Capital, where the political intrigue is as deadly as the Yokai.
