Nioh 3 Walkthrough Part 4: Navigating the Capital of Shadows
It is Wednesday, February 11, 2026. After surviving the frozen north, you arrive in the seat of power. But Kyoto is no longer a city of nobles; it is a sprawling labyrinth of Shadow Illusions. In Mission 4, "The Night of the Weeping Moon," the environment utilizes the 2026 Ray-Tracing engine to calculate your visibility ($V_b$) based on real-time lighting. If you aren't playing with your shadows, you're playing with your life.
Julian Blackwood: "The data indicates that players who attempt a 'Tank' build in the Capital are failing at twice the rate of 'Agility' builds. The tight alleyways and vertical rooftop combat favor speed and high-precision parries. This is the Ninja’s playground."
1. New Mechanic: Shadow Weaving
Part 4 introduces Shadow Weaving. By performing a Perfect Ki Pulse while standing in a dark area, you gain a 'Veil' buff that makes you invisible to enemy detection for 5 seconds. This is critical for bypassing the Oni-Head Sentinels patrolling the rooftops.
$$P_d = \frac{\text{Ambient Light Lux}}{\text{Stealth Level}} \times (1 - \text{Shadow Veil Modifier})$$
Tip: Keep your Shadow Veil active to reduce $P_d$ to near zero.
2. Verticality: Rooftop & Alley Intel
Natalie Weaver: "Kyoto is the most vertical map Team Ninja has ever designed. Don't just walk through the front gates. Use your Grappling Hook II (unlocked in the Skill Tree) to reach the rafters. 60% of the hidden Kodama in this region are located on the second-story balconies."
Recommended Gear for the Capital
| Item Class | Buff Priority | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Night-Stalker Garb | Stealth +50 | Increases Shadow Weave duration by 2 seconds. |
| Kusarigama / Dual Blades | Agility Bonus A | The most efficient weapons for vertical ledge-kills. |
| Incense of the Moon | Utility Item | Temporarily darkens the area to trigger Shadow Weaving. |
3. Boss Strategy: The Weeping Matriarch of the Night
The Weeping Matriarch is a master of illusions. She doesn't have a massive HP bar, but she summons four shadow clones of herself. If you hit the wrong clone, you take 15% psychic damage and your Ki bar is halved.
Combat Phases
- Phase 1: She stays on the rooftops. Use ranged weapons to thin the clones. Once the real Matriarch is isolated, drop-attack for a 2.0x damage multiplier.
- Phase 2 (The Eclipse): She turns the entire arena pitch black. Use your Spirit Sense or a **Fire Amulet** to create a light source. Watch for her purple eyes to track her movement.
$$R_p = (\text{Magic Stat} \times 0.5) + (\text{Resonance Sync} \times 1.2)$$
4. Part 4 Completion Checklist
- Upgrade Grappling Hook to Level 2 for faster rooftop travel.
- Find all 7 Kodama hidden in the Kyoto palace gardens.
- Complete the side-mission "The Fallen Noble" to unlock the Shadow Wolf Spirit.
THE CAPITAL HAS FALLEN.
Kyoto is safe, but the shadows are retreating to the final bastion: The Demon Fortress of Mount Fuji. Are you ready for the endgame?
